Mary’s Meals provides nutritious meals for more than 605,000 children in Zambia in over 1,250 places of education
Despite achieving medium human development, ranking 154 out of 193 countries and territories in the Human Development Index (HDI), many people in Zambia still suffer from severe poverty.
Zambians across the country have felt the disastrous effects of drought in recent years. A national disaster was declared in early 2024 as the worst drought in 40 years gripped much of Southern Africa during the 2023/2024 rainfall season. The prolonged volatile conditions decimated crops, scorched pasture for livestock, and threatened the availability of water.
Our school feeding programme in Zambia is delivered by Mary’s Meals Zambia and reaches schools in all districts in the country’s Eastern Province – where we are the main school meal provider – as well Kasama District in the Northern Province. Mary’s Meals is helping communities to harness the power of education for future generations and providing nutritional support to children in a country battling the adverse impacts of climate change.
