Community Involvement

The way that Mary’s Meals is structured, it requires not just people donating, but it involves the people on the ground, like the farmers who are growing the food.

Editor’s Note:

Mary’s Meals many layers consist of a beautiful patchwork of people.  Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our program and we are incredibly grateful for their hard work and dedication.  Our school feeding programs are owned and run by community volunteers in the countries where we provide food. These volunteers take turns to prepare, cook and serve the daily meal in each school. School feeding committees – made up of parents, teachers and volunteers – are crucial to our work and one of the first things to be established in any new area receiving Mary’s Meals. Our monitors work closely with these committees. They regularly visit schools to ensure the precious ingredients we provide are cooked and served correctly and to offer training and encouragement to the community volunteers. Wherever possible, we serve locally produced food. This supports the local community and its farmers as well as the wider economy.

We rely on people to fundraise for Mary’s Meals.  There are people running marathons, organizing concerts, selling crafts and collecting change among many other things to help feed more children. Individuals and families are the cornerstone of Mary's Meals. When they share the message with others, we are able to reach the next hungry child.

Finally, our Ambassador community makes a direct impact in the lives of hungry children around the world by using their skills and passions to share this movement with others.
