Loaves of love 

Cooks at a church in Austria took part in a marathon bake-off to help hungry children around the world. Parishioners of all ages made 208 delicious loaves of striezel – a traditional sweet bread – which were sold in the church square on the Sunday before All Saint’s Day. Some of the congregation also took part in a sponsored hike and a total of €3,905 was raised – enough to feed 250 children for a whole school year.  


Porridge heroes  

Students at university campuses across Scotland celebrated World Porridge Day 2017 with a variety of fun-filled fundraising events in aid of Mary’s Meals. Some students even chose to take part in a ‘Porridge Week Challenge,’ eating just porridge, rice and beans for seven days! The #MarysMealsonCampus event was a huge success, raising enough to ensure that 171 hungry children can enjoy 12 months of nutritious school meals. 


Meal For A Meal 

A big-hearted restaurant owner from Germany is giving diners the chance to change children’s lives in some of the world’s poorest countries by supporting Mary’s Meals. Ubaldo Valverde Gonzales has pledged to donate the cost of a week’s worth of nutritious school meals for a hungry child every time a customer buys food from his Berlin-based Spanish take-away, El Colmado. What a fantastic idea! 


Caring cooks 

Canadian schoolgirls Sol, Delfina, Isabella and Isabella got creative in the kitchen to raise funds for Mary’s Meals. Inspired by the news that it costs just $16 Canadian dollars to feed a child in Malawi for a whole school year, the friends from Our Lady Of Perpetual Help school in Toronto held a bake sale, raising enough to provide 37 children with daily school meals for an entire year.
