Running for Mary’s Meals

Meet Father Mike Plona who is the Associate Pastor at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Center Moriches, NY.

Father Mike became part of our grassroots global movement in 2016; "I first heard about Mary's Meals a few years ago through some friends. From that moment I was really moved by the awesome work the charity carries out. I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon in 2016 and thought it would be great to wear a Mary's Meals shirt to help promote the cause at least in some small way.  When the other guys I ran with heard about Mary’s Meals, they felt the same as I did. So, they agreed to wear the shirts as well!

Two years later, I found myself signed up for my first Spartan Beast Race with another group of friends. These friends were my brother priests and seminarians studying for the priesthood. I told them about what I had done in the past to support Mary’s Meals and we all agreed to represent the organization on race day.  Our bright blue shirts slowly became less and less bright as the mud accumulated throughout the day, but hopefully in some small way the good work of Mary's Meals was promoted to our fellow racers."

Mary’s Meals is a simple idea that works – by providing a daily meal in a place of education, chronically poor children are attracted to the classroom where they can gain a basic education that provides an escape route from poverty.

Our vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education and that all those who have more than they need, share with those who lack even the most basic things. Supporters like Father Mike, all around the world, are helping us to make this happen!

There are many different ways you can help by donating your time, money, thoughts and prayers.
