Heading to the top – Climbing for Mary’s Meals

Meet Georgette “Jettes” Young, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jettes is a retired United States Air Force Lt. Colonel.

She tells us: “I was part of the NATO-led Stabilisation Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SFOR) which was deployed after the Bosnian War.  So, I've seen what the devastation of war can do to a county and thus what Mary's Meals CEO Magnus MacFarlane-Barrows saw on his trip to Medjugorje, the scars of war were still very visible in 2004 when I was deployed there.  As a military member, I've been around the world and have seen poverty in many places thus I feel the need to support such a worthy cause.”

“I'm really excited about supporting Mary's Meals, I've been campaigning for Mary’s Meals with everyone I know and had gotten 6 wonderful ladies to support the effort in 2016.  Since then, I've moved from Texas to New Mexico and it's been a bit harder as I don't know as many people, thus I know the people in San Angelo, TX, will support my efforts.  I'll be in Texas in early March giving a talk at my old Adult Faith Class and they are always interested in my next big adventure so I can tell them what I'm planning in July 2018”.

“I so believe Mary's Meals is a worthy cause and would like to do more than I'm doing now!

I am planning to fund raise for Mary Meal's this summer...I'll be trying to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in July and thought it would be great to challenge myself and those around me to be kind and charitable. I would like a banner or flag that says Mary's Meals because I believe God is telling me to put my climb to use...praying I make to the top”.

Jettes has set a goal of $50,000 to support her climb for Mary’s Meals. More of her story can be found here.

The promise of a nutritious daily meal in school to those children already enrolled in the school feeding programs and to reach out to the next hungry child is the promise Mary’s Meals is determined to keep. With supporters and generous acts of kindness, like Jettes’, Mary’s Meals will continue the momentum and its mission to solve world hunger.
