Meloshe, 24, from Liberia

Meloshe is unrecognisable from the teenager that was forced from his home during civil war. Now a rising star in Liberia, he credits the role Mary’s Meals played in his incredible journey.

At 14, Meloshe was driven from his home by rebel forces during Liberia’s vicious civil war.

“Receiving food at school encouraged me to stick with my studies, and be focused,” he says.

Now 24, he’s one of Liberia’s rising stars and today he’s director of news for Bomi Radio where he manages a team of 22 people.

The independent radio service fearlessly holds the government to account, with lively political phone-ins and active debates.

Speaking about Mary’s Meals he says, “It helped me to get where I am now.”

Meet the children coping with the realities of extreme poverty and hoping for a better future.
