Help us reach our goal!

My name is Sara Sodaro-Baggett. I am the Transitional-Kindergarten teacher at St. Isidore Catholic School. Last year during our 2017-2018 Lenten season, I discussed with my class that there are many less fortunate children within our world and that the conditions in which they live are vastly different than ours. We are so fortunate with the many luxuries and opportunities we have. Reflecting deeper into this subject with the children on these topics, I could see that they were moved by this shocking news. One student made the suggestion that for a class project we should help other children their age. Brainstorming ideas of what we could do to help I saw the children become inspired and empowered! Being so moved by their kindness and motivation of these little ones, I brought this idea to our St. Isidore Catholic Church Pastor, Father Avram Brown. Father Brown acclaimed and spoke very highly of Mary's Meals, noting the generous and copious amount of volunteering you do. Excited to learn more, I researched Mary's Meals mission and am positive that St. Isidore and Mary's Meals can build a strong partnership of service!

Remembering that giving something up for Lent can help us focus on God and that depriving ourselves of something we like gives us an appreciation for all we have. If you have decided to give up a particular food item for Lent, you then can take the money that you would have spent on that item and donate it to our project benefiting Mary’s Meals. This project will provide one good meal to some of the World’s poorest children every school day. If you decide to give up screen time, one day a week, then use the time you would have spent on social media, by helping someone, or praying. Instead of focusing on giving something up, we can help children learn about giving to others. By assisting us succeed our goal for Mary’s Meals for the Season of Lent you in turn not only help other children in need, but your teaching your child a valuable virtue of almsgiving. Research shows that the most important factor in a child’s Faith Formation is the Family, so it’s important to partner together and provide them with resources for Lent in the home as well as at school, so that children can focus on spiritual things and do things that bring them closer to God. It's important for children to not only learn about Lent, but to also see how adults celebrate Lent.

Thank you in advance for your generous contribution and for supporting St. Isidore Catholic School and Mary’s Meals.

“For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality.”— 2 Corinthians 8: 3, 14
