More and more people are taking part in our Sponsor A School scheme. It is a great way of helping us expand the Mary’s Meals school feeding programme and a great way of giving your fundraising a focus.

Sponsor a School in Malawi
There are several ways to take part in the
Sponsor A School scheme in Malawi:

Building a School Kitchen
The average cost of building and equipping a school kitchen to provide pupils with a daily meal in Malawi is approx $11,500. If you want to take part, you will be assigned a school from the waiting list and provided with a briefing document giving information about Mary’s Meals across Malawi as well as your specific school. You then set out to reach the $11,500 fundraising target. When the kitchen is built we have a sign made for it bearing your name and send you photos of the finished result.


Covering Feeding Costs
Some supporters choose to fundraise to cover the annual costs of providing Mary’s Meals in a particular school. This is a huge help to us and frees up funds to begin Mary’s Meals elsewhere. If you decide to do this you receive the briefing document giving information about Mary’s Meals across Malawi and your specific school and, on reaching your target (the cost is $10 per child per year), you receive photos of the school with a sign bearing your name. You will also get an annual update, each year of support. This type of support is absolutely vital to us and ensures children in Malawi get their life-changing meal each day.


Kitchen and Feeding Costs
Some generous supporters do both – they fundraise to cover the cost of building and equipping the kitchen and continue to fundraise to cover the costs of providing a daily meal in the school.

Sponsor a School in Liberia
We are delighted that the Sponsor A School scheme has now been extended to include schools in Liberia. Here, local resources are more plentiful and schools tend to be smaller in size. This means that local communities are able to build school kitchens for Mary’s Meals themselves. So in Liberia we are looking for people to fund the average, ongoing cost per year of providing a daily meal for the pupils. This is approx $9800. Sponsors are given a briefing document with information about Mary’s Meals in Liberia and their particular school.

Signs bearing the sponsor’s name are made for the school and photographs are provided. Sponsors providing ongoing support will also receive an annual update on their school’s progress.

The Sponsor A School scheme has a wide appeal with all sorts of groups and individuals now participating whether; parishes, businesses, families or work colleagues.
